The Aiden / Bullet summit

All talk of a vicious drinking competition between the boys from the valleys and the ghouls from Seattle is put to one side as the two groups settle down to ponder the Kerrang! Awards for Kerrang! TV. Kerrang! TV has exclusive access to all the rockers from this years Kerrang! Awards so check it out this weekend on Sky - 354, NTL - 819 and Telewest - 332

Last night, (Thursday 24 August), London's East End was taken over by the dark side, with The Kerrang! Awards 2006 at The Brewery EC1. The good, the great - and the downright legendary - names in rock and metal both new and old gathered at the 550 capacity venue to hear the hugely anticipated winners of the 13 categories, and to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Kerrang! Magazine. With the recent ABC figures showing that Kerrang! Magazine is now the world's biggest selling weekly music magazine (with 80,186 readers per week) there was certainly much cause for celebration!

From 6pm on the night of the Awards, guests were treated to a stunning display of weird and wonderful sights that formed the theme of this year's Awards - "Twisted Carnival". Brought to the proceedings by infamous burlesque and cabaret company Torture Garden Productions, a carnival sideshow consisted of acts such as 'Vivid Angel Wolf Girl, 'Johnny Flaming Fun', 'Lenny Fire Dwarf' and 'Psycho Cyborgs', in addition to the beautiful Ring Mistresses Tasha and Valeria. Host of the Awards, Kerrang! Radio's Stuart Cable, joined in the bizarre circus by taking his role as Ring Master very, very seriously...

"Coherent thought is always a struggle in the aftermath of the greatest rock 'n' roll party of the year, but this year's Kerrang! Awards was a truly special night,” says Kerrang! Editor Paul Brannigan. “In Kerrang!'s 25th year, our world has never been stronger and the bands who've picked up awards tonight will be at the forefront of the international rock scene for the next 25 years. Here's to repeating this carnage in 12 months time..."

Young at heart, rock at the core

"It's not metal anymore!" says one band member when we go and nick some of their booze. Just to even the balance, here's Angus Young to pick up his Legend award. But dude, where's the schoolboy uniform? Dry cleaners? Nobody cares, they're screaming a standing ovation. "I just want to thank my mum and dad for letting me out," he grins mischievously. We salute you sir.

The Five K: Services To Metal Award

Before the evening drew to a close, and the guests began their journey to the Kerrang! Aftershow, a very special surprise Award was announced. Presented by Killswitch Engage's Adam D and Trivium's Matt Heafy, The Kerrang! Team received a very special Five K: Service To Metal trophy, in honour of the magazine's impact, influence, success and legacy within UK rock music over the last 25 years.

The Kerrang! Legend

Voted by a select K! Awards Judging Panel

Presented by Paul Brannigan

A very special appearance was made at The Kerrang! Awards 2006 by a man who is integral to Kerrang! Magazine's history. His band graced the first EVER cover of the magazine back in 1981, and are on the tip of every one's tongue when discussing the most important and influential rock bands in history. To help celebrate the 25th birthday of Kerrang!, on the night of the Awards, was AC/DC's Angus Young, who in turn was presented by Kerrang! Editor Paul Brannigan with The Kerrang! Legend accolade. AC/DC are without a shadow of a doubt one of the biggest rock bands ever, and this Award represents the important relationship that the band and Kerrang! have enjoyed over the last 25 years.

Kerrang! Hall Of Fame

Sponsored by Island Records

Presented by Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil)

The Kerrang! Hall Of Fame award, presented by Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow and Lacuna Coil's Christina Scabbia and sponsored by Island Records, went to long-standing metal titans Slayer for their inspiration and bludgeoning innovation over the last two decades. Forming in the same year that Kerrang! first hit the shops, Slayer have been integral to the development in metal over the last quarter of a century. 1986's Reign In Blood album was called 'the heaviest album of all time by Kerrang!, and twenty years on the band are still going strong - working once again with legendary producer Rick Rubin for their new album Christ Illusion. Tom Araya, Kerry King, Dave Lombardo and Jeff Hanneman have been finally honoured by the magazine that has followed them from their beginnings right up to 2006.

Best Band On The Planet

Sponsored by Kerrang! Radio
Voted for by the readers of Kerrang! Magazine and Kerrang.com

My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
Avenged Sevenfold
Lacuna Coil

The Best Band On The Planet Award this year went to a band that has seen their musical career soar to extraordinary heights within the last two years. New Jersey goth-rockers My Chemical Romance have enamoured a massive fan base very quickly, and with the hit singles 'I'm Not OK (I Promise)' and 'Helena' tapping into the mood of disaffected youth everywhere, they've maintained a steady rise through the ranks to become one of the most popular alternative rock bands world-wide.
