ANGUS YOUNG Presented by Paul Brannigan
A very special appearance was made at The Kerrang! Awards 2006 by a man who is integral to Kerrang! Magazine's history. His band graced the first EVER cover of the magazine back in 1981, and are on the tip of every one's tongue when discussing the most important and influential rock bands in history. To help celebrate the 25th birthday of Kerrang!, on the night of the Awards, was AC/DC's Angus Young, who in turn was presented by Kerrang! Editor Paul Brannigan with The Kerrang! Legend accolade. AC/DC are without a shadow of a doubt one of the biggest rock bands ever, and this Award represents the important relationship that the band and Kerrang! have enjoyed over the last 25 years.

THE PRODIGY Presented by Phil Alexander
The Spirit Of Independence Award (sponsored by Cadiz Music) has gone to a band that has raised plenty of controversy within their career, not least regarding the decision to give them a Kerrang! front cover in 1996. The Prodigy (Liam Howlett, Maxim and Keith Flint) came out of their Essex scene at the start of the 90s and assailed the nation's ears with their inimitable blend of hardcore rave, electronica and raw, savage guitar work - particularly evident with 1997's album The Fat Of The Land. It was only proper that this Award was given to the band on the night by Kerrang!'s Editor-in-Chief Phil Alexander, who made the decision to put them on the front cover and was forced to defend the magazine against some criticism for putting a predominantly non-traditional rock band in this position. Given that The Prodigy are edgy, anarchic, loud, and controversial, most would agree that they're plenty rock n' roll enough to have been given this honour.
